29 year old man has fathered 21 children

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

News Story:

Desmond Hatchett of Tennessee has fathered a total of 21 children by 11 different women before his 30th birthday.  This information became public in the Knoxville, TN courts due to his inability to keep up his child support payments with his minimum wage job.  He has had 4 children in a single year in two separate years.  Tennessee  courts are unable to take more than half of his wages for child support, thus some of the mothers will only get about $1.98 per month when the money is divided up.

Commentary:

Obviously someone needs to explain the concept of birth control to this man.

Rescued Black Lab=Good Samaritan

Friday, May 29th, 2009

News Story:

Blewett the Black Lab was not so long ago a stray barking for attention on Washington’s Blewett Pass, where several travelers had fed him and attempted to catch him.  He was finally captured and the Smith family of Plain, Wash. gave him a home.

While out for a walk with his owner on a trail near the Wenatchee River, Blewett started barking and ran down the hillside to the river’s edge to sniff at an animal that his owner thought might have been a dead bear.  It was actually and elderly, arthritic black dog, and it was alive.  That dog turned out to be 11 year old Pepper, who was being watched by a family nearby.  They speculated that Pepper went by the river to take a drink and was swept away by the current.

Commentary:

Such a sweet story, the rescued dog returns the favor to another dog in need.

Multiracial people: Fastest growing demographic in US

Friday, May 29th, 2009

News Story:

The number of multiracial people in the US grew by 3.4% last year, now numbering about 5.2 million according to the latest census estimation.  Millions more are believed to be uncounted.  Demographers cite public figures such as Tiger Woods and President Obama for helping to remove the stigma of being of mixed race.

It is projected that over the next 20 years, the significance of race as we now know it will be nonexistent.  The current racial identity politics will become obsolete, as mixed-race voters have a larger impact on politics in the US.

Commentary:

Such increases in mixed race population will overall be positive for the US as a whole, I think.  Maybe politicians will finally be forced to run for election based on actual issues, instead of courting ethnic and racial run organizations that encourage those of certain demographics to vote for particular candidates, and political parties.  It will be positive for the US to get past its history of racial discord and discrimination as well.  Programs such as affirmative action must be eliminated, so that Americans are judged by their own merits and not by their racial background.

Obama: Paint roofs and roads white to save energy

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

News Story:

US energy secretary, Steven Chu, said the Obama administration wants to paint roofs white to reflect heat and light and as a result, lower energy consumption.  This is especially targeted at flat roofs.  They would also like for roads to be a lighter color to also prevent heat absorbtion.  They say that these changes could have the equivalent result to taking off every car on the road for 11 years.  Also, painting cars in light or cool colors would reduce air conditioner use and as a result use less energy.

Commentary:

If the claims for the impact of this plan are true, this seems like a pretty simple solution to some of the US’s energy consumption plan. I think they should also require solar panel installation on new building construction as well.

Dallas twins have different fathers

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

News Story:

A mother in Dallas, TX recently found out that her 11 month old twin boys do not have the same father.  This was found out after she had her sons paternity tested because she was concerned about their facial features being so different from each other.  The mother admitted that she had cheated on her partner at the time that she had conceived.  This is an extraordinarily unusual occurrence.  The DNA lab in Dallas had never seen such a result.  There have only been a few documented cases like this in the world.

Commentary:

Amazing stuff.  I had heard it rumored in the past that this was possible, but it’s shocking to hear of an actual case.

California Voters Reject Ballot Measures

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

NEWS:

California Voters overwhelmingly rejected ballot measures that raised taxes to keep California from falling further in to an economic crisis. All ballot measures were defeated with the exception of the measure to freeze raises on government jobs when there was a budget deficit. The Governator Arnold knew these were going to fail prior to the vote, as he stopped campaigning for their passage and was in Washington the day prior to the vote.

COMMENTARY:

Being a former California resident, I have some perspective on this situation.  Spending is out of control in California, while common sense is in an extremly short supply.  The state wastes a ridiculous sum of money caring for illegals and other ultra liberal pet projects.  This high level of spending must stop if the state will ever regain its glory.  This is a classic case of spend, spend, spend and then when times get a little hard, the state is so far over extended.  It will be interesting to see if this crisis turns in to a collapse.

Shelters see increase in abandoned pets as college year ends

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

News Story:

College town shelters see a noticable increase in the number of abandoned animals as the school year comes to a close.  There is also a noticable increase in adoptions as the school year begins each year.  Many students have no way to care for the animals as they move off campus at the end of the year, yet they want the companionship of the pets during the school year.

Commentary:

What an unfortunate display of selfishness…to view pets as a disposable item like this is an outrage.  When adopting pets, their lifespan should be considered and it should be a permanent adoption, not just for the 8 months out of the year that it’s convenient for you.

American Idol down to the final 2 singers…

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

News Story:

American Idol down to the final 2 singers….Dancing with the stars chooses a champion!!

Commentary:

Why are our “news” organizations constantly bombarding us with entertainment “news”?  Is this a testament to the complete cluelessness, and lack of interest on the part of Americans to keep up to date on real news?  Or is it possible that the left wing slant on most true news stories makes many uninterested in real news, and they instead choose to fill their minds with drivel about the latest reality shows??

Graduates of Notre Dame protest Obama speech

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

News Story:

President Obama was a speaker at the commencement ceremonies at Notre Dame University on Saturday.  He was also awarded an honorary degree.  Many students protested that he was chosen to speak at a Catholic university which does not support abortion or stem cell research as President Obama does.

Commentary:

It’s good to see that there are Americans who are capable of staging a protest that does not involve violence of any kind.  What do protesters who become violent, or start riots think they will get by behving in such atrocious ways?  The students of Notre Dame clearly let the world know their stance without any violent or disruptive behavior.
